Will moderators PLEASE read the FULL question before marking things as off topic?

asked by

Many of us are getting really annoyed that things are being marked as off-topic that are perfectly fine. You have to read the DESCRIPTION of the question sometimes to clarify what the person is asking. But some of you are going way overboard with changing things that shouldn't be changed.

If you keep this up, this moderator program will be an EPIC failure and you'll ruin a good thing for the rest of us.

Please SHARE!!! And don't worry - I'm marking this off topic on my own!

I personally feel that if I see someone has a statement up (A good pair of blue sunglasses.) I will help by simply making a slight change to (Can you help me find a good pair of blue sunglasses?) This will help both shopswell and the person asking/answering the question. Why mark it as off topic? We are here to help not hurt our shopping community. We are here to help each other find the items plus shop for our selves. I have found some very interesting gifts and made purchases of those gifts, if not for shopswell I would have never found them. We are not perfect, so lets help each other. And thank you Renita for bringing this topic forward.

This is what I do when that happens other than that I correct the grammar

As far as I know, there is no notification when something is changed. You just have to keep an eye on your own stuff and let a moderator or SW know if something was changed in error. I'm  a moderator, but I can't change back my own stuff. Nor would I if it was a fair change. But people need to not interpret off-topic so critically. Maybe the question isn't worded well, but the answers are clearly given using products. Those should be left as "on topic"

@yousavedhowmuch  I also saw some of yours marked off topic that I removed the labels cause they were not warranted. I also when I removed the off topic for the 2 girls, minutes later someone went back and put them off topic and they were well asked questions with products and tags.

Mimaw of Twins! I love my boys....

Can you give me an example or two incase it was me? It probably wasn't me because I have been trying to be careful not to, I have done a lot of Tag corrections - and Title corrections.  The TAGS are out of control.. I am seeing a ton of every tag assigned to a question and there should only be 3 of main ones and up to 10 of sub tags..  It is going to take us a little while to get used to it, but I think it will go smooth.  There is always pains when it's something new.

There was one where someone asked for lip color suggestions. As women we know that means you give a LIPSTICK product suggestion, not just say "rose" or whatever. One of mine was my question about types of honey and different health benefits. It's getting out of control. I know some people who seem to have been targeted and a bunch of their stuff was changed.  When in doubt, leave it alone or send a link to SW to ask, but people need to stop this craziness.

Like you, Kim, I have only done grammatical corrections and added tags. I think I marked one earnings question as off-topic because GK said that questions about shopswell specifically are off-topic.

Mom, grandmother, and wife. Actress & former model. Former teacher, ....

I try to make sure all my questions are about products, shopswell (which can be asked on facebook, but people forget), or product uses.  New users are simply putting only two word questions and they can't be helped.

Ouestions should be (as per shopswell):  Sometimes you just want to get ideas and feedback from people. Questions let you ask any shopping or product related question. Find the perfect gift, get the just right product, or find the best deal on something you want. When you ask a question, you'll get responses from the community.

If we all try to make our questions clearer, maybe the rest will follow and things will go a bit better.  I've only edited one question so far.  And I've added a ton of products to questions that we a bit off topic to help out.  But something like, "What color?" or "toys?"?  How can we help with that except try to clarify it?

@boodreeau Yup hard to change if you don't know what to change it to.  People should be as specific as possible when asking questions.  And they should feel free to ask in English first and then follow in any language.  At this point we might be able to help them better. It's obvious that either they're foreign or not all there when they ask questions. lol

@justine_kinch  @@boodreeau  I agree people need to be specific, but sometimes that "specific" portion is in the description that is below the question. People are changing to off topic without reading the description part.

I absolutely agree! Sounds like there are some who this power has already gone to their heads.

I'm ok with re-wording questions, however, if something is truly off topic such as "have a great day" then cool. Mark it as off topic. But just to mark things off topic just because you "can" is not the right thing to do either.

I have extremely slow cell service, I live in the middle of nowhere, and majority of the time, I'll post something and my service goes out. I might be able to re-modify my ? But not for minutes to half hour later. By that time, Is already off-topic

I honestly believe that this program is so new and no one has really gone into depth what it's all about except other than some "light" descriptions here & there. That why hit it so hard right off the bat, why not take some time and go with the flow and learn about what this program is before making snap decisions!

Exactly, but I can't help but wonder if it's an issue where they think they'll make more of the rewards if they do more "work." I surely hope SW is reviewing what they are doing. And you can't correct your own back. So, if someone marks mine as off topic, I have to ask another moderator to fix it.

@yousavedhowmuch I sadly believe, that those people are out there and moderators. The only reason to mark people's questions off topic (if they aren't clearly off topic) is so people can't find them easily. This screwing the people over who asked and allowing themselves to keep tags that can be found. That's what I though as soon as I read your question. Blah! At least there's a good group of you all who are honest.

@yousavedhowmuch I have been cleaning my posts up with the tags etc.. I didn't realize that we couldn't fix it ourselves because I haven't had anything marked off topic that needed correction. I do not have a problem fixing another moderators post if it needs to be fixed and I don't have a problem with asking another moderator to fix mine if it is necessary.

I have been helping with title changes when it is a statement, I change it to sound like a question.
