Having seen and loved both of the original Ghostbusters movies, I had to see this one. The trailer had me worried - the movie looked so crude! - but the movie was not nearly as crude as the trailer made it seem. (I suspect they went through the whole movie looking for crude content, and attempted to pile it all into the trailer. Maybe they thought viewers would be more likely to watch the new Ghostbusters if the trailer made it look really crude?)
While this is undoubtedly NOT a family movie, it is pretty funny, and didn't seem overdone. I thought they might be trying too hard since they were remaking the originals with an all-female cast, but it was lots of laughs.
There were plenty of jokes that went over my head (I realize this because my roommates were regularly explaining why they were laughing to me) but it was still enjoyable. I loved that they included different aspects from the original movies in the 2016 version - at different times you could say, "he's from the second movie!" or otherwise be reminded of what happened in the earlier films. They way they included those aspects wasn't in-your-face, either - it was often a subtle inclusion that made you go, "wait - is that ..."
I recommend watching the original two movies first, so you can appreciate the 2016 version more, and be able to laugh along with everyone else when you realize what elements were slyly included. Enjoy!
