Pete's Dragon was by far one of my favorite movies when I was a kid (I watched the movie over and over again!). So, when I heard they were releasing a new version of this old family favorite I was intrigued.
We went to see the film over the weekend and I can honestly say it was as good as the original. That's not to say that it's exactly like the original, it's not, but it was a great modern rendition of a childhood fave. The new version definitely had a more serious tone, overall. Same story line, a little boy was orphaned and taken in by a friendly dragon named, Elliott. The new film includes more details about how Pete became parent-less.
Of course, there were some scenes from the old movie that were cut but overall I think the producers did an excellent job. The visual effects are just plain awesome (Pete looked so real!) and the sweet story of a boy and his dragon still pulls at my heart strings, even as an adult. If you loved the original, you must see this movie!
Oh, and just for kicks, make sure to include the old version in your family's movie collection.
