I sometimes find myself shaking my head at some of the new toys out there, some of them lack imagination or just do it all for the child. The child doesn't have to use his or her brain at all with some of them or use their own imagination. So I wanted to share with you my appreciation of old toys and how much they provoke good play and teaching. I particularly like the old wooden ones that were made to take a beating and they will at some point be dropped or thrown, etc. I think the wooden doll furniture is great and looks more like the real thing than those old plastic ones. Also I really love the old metal train sets, the engine with the real smoke coming from it traveling around the Christmas tree. You can still find some of these old toys being made by crafter's at fairs, but I fear this is an art that won't be around much longer.
I do have to say though that Melissa and Doug toys are doing a great job of bringing some of this back. Like the doll house furniture found on Amazon.
