Staying fit is incredibly important to me. Making time to workout keeps me healthy, both physically and emotionally. The high that's associated with nailing a killer workout is addicting.
Most weeks I can be found at PNF (a personalized nutrition and fitness center) three times a week. However, every once in awhile life gets in the way, or I want to sneak in a short workout at home. When this happens a HIIT routine is my workout of choice. It packs the most punch in a short period of time. That's when I rely on these fitness products to get a killer workout in at home.
First off, here's one of my favorite HIIT home workouts:
The workout takes 20 minutes to complete (45 seconds of work, 15 seconds of rest). You can do anything for 45 seconds so don't be afraid to push yourself (if you slack off you're only hurting yourself!).
An interval timer makes pacing yourself a breeze.
For the weighted jacks I like to use 6-10 lb. dumbbells. You'll be surprised how heavy those babies start to feel after thirty seconds so choose wisely and add more weight as you get stronger. This is a great beginners dumbbell set:
When doing med ball slams I use a 20 lb. ball. Don't be afraid to put a little force behind that slam, get mad! I like to switch this up with a wall version (on my knees, slamming against a basement wall) just make sure you're using a reinforced wall.
A kettle bell makes for an effective Russian Twist. Want to make these more difficult? Tight core, feet up! You can do it.
You don't need to spend a ton of time or cash to get a great workout in. The HIIT workout described above takes 20 minutes but if you're feeling strong challenge yourself by repeating three or four times. Stick with it and you'll see results, I promise.
