Books for Reluctant Readers Books for Reluctant Readers

As my oldest son grew out of picture books, I started reading some of these aloud to him before bed. It's a great way to stay connected to your kids, even as they get older.

There are many on this list he was old enough to read on his own, but the heavy book with dozens of chapters intimidated my son for a while...before he was ready to read longer chapter books on his own, these were a great transition.

My kids were reluctant readers for a long time. But I didn't give up. I kept making them try books and read at least the first 5 chapters (since most kids books are short). They are now AVID readers. It took finding something that they liked. So, parents should never give up!
