Every year, the fear of lice strikes fear into my heart. If you've never had to deal with it, you're lucky. When I was younger, a kid in my class came to school with it. I was unlucky enough to be one of the five kids that sat near him. Guess who got slammed with lice? Thankfully, I had short hair as a kid. It wasn't a huge ordeal, like the other long-haired girls.
Lice strikes fear into many hearts!
As a kid, mom would force me to wash my hair every day. Clean hair was mandatory. Well, guess what? Lice love clean hair. Mom had no idea, but she learned rather fast clean hair isn't always the best thing for little girls in elementary school! However, it was too late for me, I'd already gotten hit with the lice bomb.
A young kid who sat next to me, well, he infected all five of us that sat around him in class. People claim the lice don't jump. Well, I find it hard to believe that only us five around the one who started it all, ended up with lice and no one else did, if lice can't jump. However, it's still insisted upon that lice can't jump. Whatever. I know I didn't share a hat with the kid, or put my head anywhere near his head, that's for darn sure.
However it happened, I was stuck waiting for mom to pick me up at the nurse's office most of the day, since she worked. Then, once we got home, I was tortured with chemicals being poured on my head, and scrubbed into my scalp. A silly metal comb being run through my hair, more than once, and some more chemicals poured on my head, just to make sure!
My favorite part? Bagging up almost everything we couldn't wash in HOT water, to kill the lice. stuffed animals, comforters, and whatever else couldn't be thrown in the washing machine and washed in boiling hot water. Good times, and definitely lasting family memories, for sure.
The memories of it all....still make me shutter. It's why, in our house, I've decided to try to fight lice before they even come into the house. I'm all about Vamousse Daily Defense Against Lice gentle shampoo, and All Day Lice Repellent (it will be coming out later this year, I got to test it out before it hits shelves.) It's just smart! Both are safe, and non-toxic, and have no synthetic pesticides.
Now, if my long-haired daughter ends up with lice, I've also got Vamousse Lice Treatment, which also has no synthetic pesticides! Plus, it comes with a professional steel comb, to work those little louse out of all hair types. Although, tweezers are the only way to truly get those suckers totally out of hair.
I've also invested in a fantastic powder to use on household items, like beds, and couches. It eliminates lice and dust mites, and again, is safe, non-toxic and doesn't have synthetic pesticides.
Vamousse was nice enough to send me full-sized bottles of all of my lice fighting, and killing, products. I'm making very good use of them, especially with my daughter. Her long hair is not going to get us into trouble, that's for sure!
