Hello Everyone! Today I am taking you onto my latest DIY journey. Home Made Deodorant. My journey started when I literally became so sick of my current brand of deodorant. It really wasn't working for sweat control, as soon as I put a shirt on, my underarm area would be soaked. Definitely not cute and very uncomfortable when you are out of the house all day...
I wrote to a few different deodorant companies to inquire about a possible sample or coupon because a lot of brands just really don't work for me. I was dismissed by one I wanted to try, so why should I want to give them my business if they are not interested in swaying potential customers to purchase their products?
Lately I have been on a DIY kick. It's not that I am against all manufacturers, I just needed a hobby and what better hobby is there than making your lifestyle a little healthier?
So I started researching DIY deodorants and quickly realized that I have all these ingredients already in my house. So why am I worried if a company won't send me a coupon? I'll just make my own! :)
The recipe is quite simple and if you are into oils and the healthier lifestyle. You should already have these ingredients in your house!
Here are some examples of the products I used in this recipe!
Arrow Root powder can be found in the baking aisle of your grocery store, if you can't find it, you can order it here, or just substitute it with cornstarch or extra baking soda.
I used beeswax in my recipe, because it will give your deodorant stability. Coconut oil has a very low melting point so even leaving it out of the refrigerator could cause your mixture to melt. You can most certainly omit the beeswax, you'll just want to keep your deodorant sticks in the refrigerator. Where as, with the beeswax added, you don't have to refrigerate it.
After you have all your ingredients ready, all there is left to do is make it. I melted the coconut oil, Shea butter & beeswax in a microwave safe bowl until melted & smooth, I microwaved it in 30 second intervals. When all is combined & smooth - add in baking soda & arrowroot powder, combined until smooth. Then add your oil choices. I used Lemon and Lavender, and it smells lovely.
Also this mixture does set up very quickly, so depending on how fast you work, you might have to pop it back in the microwave to get everything melted again.
When all is smooth & combined, I poured the mixture into deodorant containers and placed them in the fridge over night to set up. I still have mine in the fridge several days later, that's just my preference, but feel free to take them out when they are all set up.
Here is the final outcome!
What I love about this is that it's all natural, no aluminum or harsh chemicals, and you can customize your fragrances.
This is not an antiperspirant, so you won't have sweat protection, (which if you remember, was the reason why I was so fed up with my current deodorant to begin with, lol) but over time, when your body gets used to not having all these chemicals seeping into you, you will get used to it and start to require less & less of it!
I have used it for a few days now and so far I have zero complaints.
I hope you enjoyed this and are a little more inspired to try some of these amazing recipes for yourself! I'd love to hear from you!
