Having your own cabin is a great way to get away and some may even consider it a necessity. Your cabin is a space where you go when you want to go outdoors and spend time with your friends and loved ones. Your cabin can be used as a gathering spot where memories are made and can also be a place a refuge for you when life gets a little crazy.
Since your cabin is important, you want to make it as warm and inviting as possible. Here are 5 things to consider when decorating your cabin:
Look at Your Space
If you have your cabin built this is going to make this part of decorating so much easier. Take a walk through your cabin and image in your mind’s eye what your space could become.
Can you see a piano in your cabin for music nights? What about being a place to go after you have gone hunting? Maybe you can imagine your cabin being warm and firelit after you come in from playing in the snow. Toss different ideas around to explore all of your options for your space.
Choose a Theme
You may have no idea where to start and that is totally okay. A good place to start is to choose a theme that you want to use. Think about what you are going to use your cabin for, this is a good starting point. Maybe it will be a place to go for the holidays. It may be your home while you are hunting or fishing. You may want the space to be modern or a rustic country look.
Maybe you know you want antler chandeliers but aren’t sure what else you want for your cabin. Choose something that will go with those chandeliers and build your whole theme around that specific item. If a certain item inspires you, build around that item and run with it.
Take Your Time
Not everything has to get done all at once. This can be a stressful mentality to have because of finances, time, and your personal health. To take the stress off of you and make your life a little easier, don’t feel like you have to do everything at once.
Spread things out over time, you can take years. You may start out with getting a fireplace going or having a nice kitchen. Then you can move on to more decorative items such as rugs, pictures, and items such as shoe racks.
Think Long Term
If you are not keeping your cabin for a long amount of time, 5 years or more, you may not want to go all out and decorate your cabin fully. But if you are planning on keeping your cabin, you may need to adjust your perspective and start thinking long term.
You may not even have your cabin fully finished but you already have a good idea of how you want to decorate your brand new space. This is great because you can also start planning your financial budget. Set aside some money each paycheck to go towards your cabin and decorating it.
If this is a cabin that you plan on keeping for the long term and the rest of your life, it is okay to dream big. Choose things that you absolutely need to have in your cabin. This may be a great living room with a lot of blankets or having a hot tub that you can use.
Do your research and make an action plan to achieve your decorating dreams. You do not have to have your cabin be transformed overnight so do not stress over finances or what you want. Your cabin will be there for you as long as you need it.
